So every year I have do the same thing. I make a few entries in the old blog due to a New Years resolution. The resolution ranges from "Blog Daily" to "Write more often." This time it must be different.</ p>
I promise to blog daily

I need to fine tune my web skills in Domino. Additionally, I have various applications that need to be web enabled for the Blackberry. So by the end of the month I will have a blog database called cBlog that will have goals, physical details (weight, foods) and of course the typical content documents. By February, I will have a contact database that will be accessible via the Blackberry.</ p>

So today I have also added a new goal to my cBlog list: Articles and Tips. I have tons of tricks, tips, and other miscellaneous junk stored in this thing I like to call my brain. Today I will create two different publications, one listing keystroke short cuts and one to manage profiles and rules in the mail template. Simple things but I know I always refer back to my old code. I am sure someone can benefit from this someday.
I will never give away all my knowledge because I know people like the previous company I worked at will take the code and NOT give credit to the correct people. If you ever have any questions please ask!

I know this is a BS publication but I need to write. I have been asked by people over and over again "How do I delete a profile in the users mail file?"

Using my handy-dandy F1 keystroke:
<il>"Profile documents allow for quick data retrieval, because they are cached while the database that stores them is open. Profile documents are like other database documents except they are somewhat invisible -- they do not display in views and are not included in a document count for the database. Users create profile documents by using an action button or agent you design that uses LotusScript or the formula language. "

The average notes administrator will know profile documents from the mail files. Many times these finicky documents will corrupt. So instead of trying to fix it, delete it. Let the end users recreate the document...
Create an agent and paste this tiny code into it:

Sub Initialize

Dim s As New NotesSession
Dim db As NotesDatabase
Dim doc As NotesDocument

Set db = s.currentdatabase

'This will delete the Out of Office Profile.
Set doc = db.GetProfileDocument("outofofficeprofile")
Call doc.Remove(True)

'This will delete the Calendar Profile.
Set doc = db.GetProfileDocument("calendarprofile")
Call doc.Remove(True)

End Sub

The reason I am even documenting this is largely due to the Rules used in the Notes/Domino R6.5.1 mail template. Rules actually use the Calendar Profile to store important stuff regarding the Rules. If the rules become corrupt or god forbid the end user deletes the document (R6.5.1 issue, fixed in later releases) the rule will still work! Removing the Calendar Profile will remove rule details!

Another agent I like to use is one that can remove more than one profile document. I know the F1 gods told me that there is only one profile document, but what about those replication conflicts? How can you remove every single copy to the Calendar Profile document. Use the following code to guide you to euphoria:

Sub Initialize

'Remove every copy of the Calendar Profile
Dim s As New NotesSession
Dim db As NotesDatabase
Dim dc As NotesDocumentCollection
Dim doc As NotesDocument

Set db = s.currentdatabase

Set dc = db.GetProfileDocCollection
For x = 1 To dc.count
Set doc = dc.GetNthDocument ( x )
Call doc.Remove(True)
Next

End Sub

Well, I hope this simple documentation can help the administrator out that is banging his/her head against the wall because they cannot determine why the mail file is acting the strange.

Today I have to get off my chest this very simple database that was designed and redesigned for many of my clients to redirect notes users to a new database. I has been used to consolidate domains and/or servers. Before the user is redirected to the new server, we can also log the users details, time, client version, names, etc. Then the database is closed then the new database is opened. I also added some fun code to 'spray' the users across many servers. So I randomly move someone to either server 1, 2, or 3. (I will document that random generator later).
Things you can learn from this database:

Cool tricks with buttons.

Randomly open various files based on an array

And the thing I find most important is how to close a database when needed

Now why is the closing of a database so important? Well first off, I prefer that everyone knows how to do it. (IE: no more secrets) Secondly, this will allow you to do some work, see if the users has the right credentials and then let them in or close it. Even Managers or Designers won't be able to crack your database. Of course if you actually use the designer client you can remove or comment out the code.... But we are talking about using the Notes client.

So this super secret, this thing that certain companies think is the best kept secret in the world. (They pinched it from some one on notes.net!) You READY? ... Create a page with Call Source.close() in the PostOpen. That is the secret!!!

The exact code I used follows:

Sub Postopen(Source As Notesuidocument)

Dim w As New NotesUIWorkspace
Dim s As New NotesSession
Dim db As NotesDatabase

Set db = s.currentdatabase

tmp = Evaluate ( |@IsNotMember("[Admin]";@UserRoles)| )
If tmp(0) And db.server <> "" Then
Call Source.close()
End If

End Sub

So if the user does not have a role of [Admin] and your on the server close this page/database. Something so simple but yet so powerful.

Please enjoy this code and example database. Spread the word, Clearframe is here.

- dtb

So I currently am helping this insurance company fix the Notes system. Originally, they have outsourced the mail for the passed 10 years. They have relied on is company for so much. This external company has all the rules, all the X500, all the LDAP...

As of today we have 5 days to import this entire system... Sad, but true... The engineering team has not ask anyone what rules, policies, etc... The manager has already told the Operations team that they will get this handed to them with no training. Oh, I forgot... 200k messages a day!!! and to top at this company employees complain about a SINGLE email message! Let alone the hundreds we will get when they implement the new system.

Sometimes it feels as if the people using Notes are the worst enemies!!!

One of the hardest things to due is to say on target, focus! I have been finding that I am wondering more and more as I age. Have I succumbed to the 30 second retention of the TV nation or have I just completely become bored with my current environment. I would have to say that I have allowed the people, radio, TV, TiVo, Movies, and internet to divert my focus on my passions!

I have set a goal to setup a better, cleaner, smaller, more powerful blog than what is currently available to the Notes community. I have slipped in therecent days because I let my current job distract me from that passion. It also distracted me from the GREAT article that I need to post.

So I have some goals for the blog. And I have some goals for the design of the blog. The goals for the blog is to create, write, and document databases that help the Notes commuty work more efficiently. I will also help the Notes community work more efficiently with the Exchange environments of the world. One of the most important things I have seen in corporate America is the ability to work with other messaging environments. My past is completely made up of migrating users to and from the Notes/Domino world. I KNOW this needs to be documented better.

The goals for the blog follows:

CSS Skins

Portability - used as a blog or CMS

RSS Feeder

Migration from other blogs

ability to create goals for the public to see ( this uses psychology to force my readers to push me when I do not focus

I hope by the end of the day I shall have a posting/article of a group mail database. This will allow many users to send/recieve email as a single user. You'll see.

I have to run :peace

So I did my first post Saturday and my dear friends pinged me all day monday... You blogged!! Ha Yes I did. I needed to make the blog myself and I needed to make the posting accessible from the web. Now I can post from anywhere.
My next project is to make the blog post documents from emails. Don't worry. I will make a profile have a set of criteria s that will allow certain emails to post.
Next month I will start posting articles focused around migrations from Domino to Exchange. I know very very painful but I have to document stuff here at my current employer. So I might as well document for all to see and learn.
hmm... well as you see I just started my second semester of classes for my double Masters program. (MS and MBA) I am really looking forward to my classes!
Well I have to work!
